Aid in Recovery & Toys for Tots work to make this Christmas special for the children!
Aid in Recovery’s mission of helping others has extended further with their toy drive for the nationwide charity, Toys for Tots. It is the goal of the staff at Aid in Recovery to collect and distribute toys among the local community to families who cannot afford toys for their children this year. Aid in Recovery is working with Toys for Tots to make Christmas wishes come true. They are dedicated to helping as many people to have the Christmas they deserve. As the Holiday Season has arrived, they have started collecting toys and will distribute them just in time for Christmas.
Toys for Tots all started as a Los Angeles Charity in 1947, with a Raggedy Ann doll and Diane Hendricks. Diane tried to donate the doll to a child in need, however, she could not find an organization that would assist her in her mission. Her idea was sparked then and the first course of action was to work with her husband, Major Hendricks, and ask a small group of Marine Reservists to put a bin outside the Warner Bros. movie theater to collect toys for children. They collected and distributed 5,000 toys in that first round-up. In 1948 the Marine Corp adopted this program nationwide as a community project and as of 2013 the Toys for Tots Program have distributed more than 469 million toys to needy children.
If you would like to get involved in the Toys for Tots program there are several ways to donate; you can donate toys at a drop off site near you or alternatively, since we live in a digital world, you can donate on line.
